Serial numbers were not a requirement until 1968, so older firearms may not have serial numbers. You can still use the two-letter code on the barrel of the rifle or shotgun to look up the firearm's age. SO I was surfing along last night and saw one of these for sale in a local forum site - Gun was only marked 'Remington Sportsman 12' & the serial number starts with a 'P' and ends with a 'V', and darn that thing looks like an 1187. I think it only takes 2 3/4' shells. There were just two pics.
